Kik is a mobile messaging app that emphasizes ease of use and anonymity. Developed by Kik Interactive, Inc., the app was founded in 2009 by students from the University of Waterloo in Canada. It officially launched on October 19, 2010, and drew more than one million users in its first two weeks. Today, it has more than 300 million registered accounts, with teenagers in the U.S. accounting for about 40% of its user base.
